Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the female figure is an expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the female figure has also been a central figure in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism. The female figure is central to Italo Bongera's artistic production, always rendered in the painter's consistent style between Expressionism and Abstraction.
Artist Italo Bongera's style is consistent and original throughout his work. His pictorial approach tends toward expressionism. Indeed, in his paintings, the female figure is always depicted in a highly synthetic manner, with a nervous, quivering line that delineates complex and articulated postures. Even the application of color fully reflects the painter's expressionist nature. The color has a dramatic dynamism, driven by the painter's agitated gestures. But it is above all in the definition of the space that accommodates his female figures that Italo Bongera expresses the most original side of his style. As we can see in this work, the existential vibrations that pervade the room are expressed through an abstract composition of polychrome squares. It is reminiscent of the magical geometry of a Paul Klee, but compared to the Swiss artist, Bongera's squares maintain a more gestural and vibrant pictorial style, in keeping with the overall expressionist nature of his work.
Italo Bongera was born in Tortona in 1949. A painter active primarily in Turin, he has held numerous exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. His pictorial production is highly interesting and original: focused on the representation of the female figure, Bongera has developed an expressionist style with a certain geometric abstraction.
