Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The painter is very attentive to a naturalistic rendering of the landscape and possesses a confident technique that allows him to faithfully convey what he sees on canvas. The atmospheric rendering is perfect, both of the quality of the air and the humidity emanating from the forest. The objects depicted blend delicately with the surrounding space, thanks to a highly refined sfumato technique. The artist faithfully captures the light vibrations on the grass and leaves, using an impressionistic brushstroke.
Italo Buhne, born in Portici in 1924, displays a high level of academic technique. He remains faithful to a concept of art based on the imitation of nature and allows little subjectivity. His style is therefore highly realistic, yet shows some traces of idealization. His technique also yields to impressionistic hatching, especially when depicting the effect of light on objects.
