In the sailing ship cycle, the dominant theme is the journey, a metaphor for the introspective journey that a couple should periodically undertake, looking towards a serene and happy horizon to be reached or built.
The mistake couples most often fall into is the trap set by sex.
If a relationship is built on the frantic pursuit of new bodily sensations and erotic fantasies, with the resulting need for constant change, the relationship will quickly wear thin. In this regard, I recall an excellent book by Milan Kundera: The Unbearable Lightness of Being.
It's not a moral or ethical issue, but simply a relationship issue within a couple. In my opinion, the relationship needs to be built with greater dedication and care on the emotional level. The deep love that binds two people together makes the bond seem indissoluble and essential, and what is built upon it is based on shared interests and goals, or at least on mutual respect for those needs. Sex is very important, of course, but if it's placed at the foundation of a relationship, it will quickly lead to its breakdown.
I repeat, it is not a moral or ethical issue, it is the correct management of a relationship that involves children, the home and the closest relatives.
A relationship cannot be experienced from the outset, or as it progresses, as something that is consumed or will be consumed and therefore destined to be thrown away.
Obviously, the path is often neither simple nor easy, and sometimes, it's true, there are cases where the best solution is an immediate separation.
This path suggested by my paintings is therefore intended for those who have loved each other deeply, in a bond deemed sacred and indissoluble. I encourage these couples to embark on this journey, not without its ups and downs and winds that sometimes push in different directions. They, however, have the warm light of a great affection that envelops them and a destination in a safe harbor whose moorings are already known.
