Description of the work
Description of the work
The iconography of this painting certainly has allegorical meanings and can be defined, in some ways, as symbolist precisely because of its allusion to underlying meanings. It is a type of subject that can be traced back to the artistic language of late nineteenth-century painters such as Moreau, Bocklin, or Puvis des Chavannes, who, while using a primarily figurative language, developed intellectually complex iconographies, full of symbolic, allegorical, and, in particular, literary references.
In this work, we can appreciate the refined technique of artist Ivano Biasetti in depicting a complex symbolist iconography. The painter distorts reality with expressionistic intent to convey the symbolic value of the scene. Indeed, although the artist's language is essentially figurative, proportions are not respected, and there is a certain tendency to generalize the physiognomies. The plasticity is very pronounced, but Biasetti treats it with a dynamic pictorialism that dissolves the forms into a more lyrical interpretation. The space created by the artist is neutral, almost metaphysical, and the colors are based on tones that are not entirely naturalistic.
Ivano Biasetti was born in Solara di Bomporto (MO) in 1946. In 1958, he began his art studies at the "A. Venturi" State Art Institute in Modena. He earned a Master of Arts diploma in 1964 and, as the only student to achieve top marks in the art disciplines, won the "A. Preti" scholarship. In 1965, he began his studies at the "Clementina" Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. He qualified to teach Drawing and Art History in 1966. He graduated from the Academy in 1969. From 1982 to 2005, he taught at the "M. Morandi" State Scientific High School in Finale E. (MO). His first artistic expressions were evident at the age of eight; at twelve, he exhibited his first works, and starting in 1961, he created works that earned numerous prestigious artistic awards. He participated in cultural exchanges and traveling exhibitions around Europe. Numerous group and solo exhibitions, and works placed in private and public collections, both Italian and foreign.
