John Gould (1804-1881) was an English taxidermist employed by the Zoological Society. In 1820, he became fascinated by oriental bird species when he studied a collection of specimens from the Himalayas. This study gave rise to one of Gould's most important works: the collection of reproductions of eighty species in imperial lithographs. Henry Constantine Richter (1821-1902) was an important English zoological illustrator. He produced a large number of colored lithographs, mostly of birds and mammals, for the scientific books of the ornithologist and taxidermist John Gould.
