A member of the Gothic Revival, Joseph Nash was an exemplary representative of Romantic artists' interest in the Middle Ages. Joseph Nash was born in Great Marlow in 1809 and died in London in 1878. A member of the Gothic Revival, he was a watercolourist and lithographer specializing in historic buildings and genre scenes. His major work was the four volumes of Mansions of England in the Olden Time, published from 1839 to 1849.
