Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as an independent subject began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also became a way of interpreting reality.
The artist of this painting is a painter who adheres to a distinctly academic style of production, within a conception in which naturalistic rendering becomes so important as to verge on hyperrealism. Precision lies in reproducing the texture of the flowers, the surfaces of the vases, and the effects of light on them. To achieve this goal, the artist uses a highly dynamic technique in which, while maintaining formal precision, he does not shy away from more painterly effects achieved through rapid application.
The author of the work is listed as Prof. Kevin, a Lombard artist included in the 1981 Bolaffi catalogue. He is a painter specializing in floral compositions, demonstrating a solid academic background and an extraordinary technique that, in addition to pursuing a naturalistic rendering of the subject, allows him to achieve freshness and vivacity through a rapid, painterly application of the paint.
