Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as an independent subject began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world, as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also became a way of interpreting reality.
Lucio Cargnel's works are created with a remarkable technique inspired by Impressionism. The artist aims for a naturalistic rendering but uses rapid brushstrokes, using hatching, to quickly delineate shapes and volumes. This allows him to capture the effects of light and atmosphere on objects and to transfer the floral composition to the canvas with great immediacy. The entire color palette is based on a specific tone, consistent across the entire surface. The perspective grid is not eliminated, but spatial depth is determined exclusively through color shading.
Lucio Cargnel was a painter from Treviso, born in 1903 and died in Milan in 1998. His favorite subjects are landscapes, city views, streets, and squares. Born into the artistic family of Vittorio Antonio Cargnel, he inherited his father's exploration of light and the scenographic compositional structure of his work. Compared to his father's, Lucio Cargnel's color palette is brighter.
