Description of the work
Description of the work
The highest expression of Italian culture
A general, non-thematic, and highly interdisciplinary work, the new Treccani Encyclopedia consists of 57 volumes, containing a total of 100,000 entries, including 70,000 biographical entries and 9,600 illustrations in 9,200 pages, offering an encyclopedic synthesis of all Treccani knowledge, organized for rapid and structured consultation.
The Treccani Encyclopedia combines rigor with usability, achieved by alternating broad entries, which develop the historical evolution of philosophical, artistic, scientific, and social themes, with short entries, with essential coordinates of characters, places, or events.
The completeness of the information is ensured by precise entries, presented in a modern and immediate way.
Clear, colorful maps, schematic drawings, and diagrams provide iconographic assistance in reading the texts, while artistic illustrations are provided by a rich array of plates outside the text.
Complete and current
Ten volumes of synthesis and intellectual authority that represent a solid point of reference for the reader in a world flooded with fragmented and uncertified information.
Since its first edition in 1929, the Treccani Encyclopedia has been the highest expression of Italian culture and, like knowledge, it has evolved and changed face.
The contents of the new work update the entries, both in their selection and in their treatment, focusing on the present, to serve as a window into the future. Particular attention was paid to the selection of the disciplinary subdivisions and the curators of the individual disciplines, to give adequate space to emerging disciplines and appropriately evaluate the themes of more mature disciplines.
This brand new work is therefore the ultimate expression of this constant change that starts from the past and reaches up to the present day.
Treccani, synonymous with encyclopedia in the collective imagination, offers a major encyclopedic work that is both contemporary and concise, more in keeping with our age of rapid communication and distributed information.
Rigorous and authoritative
The Treccani Encyclopedia was created by renowned figures in contemporary science and culture, who have given this work a unique character and unparalleled authority in the field of encyclopedic knowledge. Among others, in addition to director Adriano Alippi, are Gian Tommaso Scarascia Mugnozza, Pietro Calissano, and Sergio Carrà.
The new Treccani Encyclopedia is rooted in tradition but firmly embraces innovation in every field of knowledge, with great scientific rigor and a strongly international perspective.
