Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones. The artist Lamberto Lamberti specialized in genre scenes with popular themes, landscapes, and still lifes.
The style of painter Lamberto Lamberti is built on a delicate, color-driven lyricism. His depiction can be described as essentially realist, with a keen eye for a genuinely popular dimension. All of this, however, is transfigured into a poetic and emotional representation thanks to Lamberto Lamberti's pictorial style. His brushstrokes are wavy, charged with luminous and chromatic vibrations. Color has a structural function, and the painter, with just a few synthetic touches, manages to give form to his subjects, ensuring immediacy and freshness to the representation. Fully consistent with the humble and sincerely realist spirit of his poetics, Lamberto Lamberti's palette is distinguished by the predominance of brown tones, in which the artist captures sudden flashes of light through the use of white.
Lamberto Lamberti was a painter from Brescia, born in 1925 and died in 2003. While still very young, he was a student of Angelo Landi and Emilio Pasini. Among his solo exhibitions, particularly memorable are those held at the following galleries: "Vittoria" (Brescia, 1942); "Vanni" (Bergamo, 1950); "Bolzani" (Milan, 1952, 1954); "Gussoni" (Milan, 1957, 59-1965, 67); "Accademia" (Milan, 1959, 1969); "Il Vertice" (Milan, 1969); "Centro bresciano d'arte" (Brescia, 1969).
