The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.

The work offers an elegant and refined interpretation of the city of Paris at the turn of the century. The lively and vibrant bourgeois atmosphere is captured using a Post-Impressionist-inspired technique. The application is achieved by splashes of color, starting from the street surface and delineating the reflections on the wet surface, the subjects, and the haze that washes over the buildings in the distance. The entire surface is almost a two-tone palette of blacks and grays.

The artist A. Lauzi, as we can see in this work, draws on the poetics of the late nineteenth century relating to the representation of lively bourgeois scenes of city life in a post-impressionist language.
