The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the female figure is an expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. In this work, artist Lina Cavallino has focused her pictorial research on female faces and figures, arriving at a unique form of expressionism. Lina Cavallino's expressionism is based on the synthesis of the subject and the transcendence of contingent data in favor of a representation with broader meanings. This synthesis occurs through a dense, highly elaborately applied paint. The figures then become almost like masks, which nevertheless exhibit a very marked plasticity, yet one deriving exclusively from the vibrations of the paint itself. The brushstrokes are energetic and vigorous in the rough-hewn figures. A palette of greenish hues prevails, with the forms illuminated by a dull light.

The painter Lina Cavallino, as we can see from an analysis of this work, is an artist who has developed a predominantly expressionist language. Her pictorial style, in fact, completely transcends the naturalistic rendering of the subject through a synthesis achieved through a dense and gestural pictorial layering.
