Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as an independent subject began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world, as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also became a way of interpreting reality.

Throughout his career as a painter, Lionello Trabuio developed his own artistic language, known as "Transvisism." This is a type of representation based on a perception that transcends the five senses, exploring new dimensions. For this reason, Trabuio's work can be linked to surrealist or symbolist influences, especially in a painting like this, where figurative elements also appear (in cases like this, he spoke of Figurative Transvisism). Thus, the floral subject, the painting's protagonist, finds itself immersed in a visionary dimension that the artist has been able to create thanks to his profound sensitivity. Formally, Trabuio creates a space in which the laws of time and space are subverted, and he conducts this process entirely through his pictorial application. Indeed, the gestural component is fundamental in defining the new perceptual dimension in which the subject of the work is inserted. In this work, this gesturality is characterized by a series of large, dense, almost material-like touches of color. As usual, Lionello Trabuio's palette is based on very bright shades, full of light.
Lionello Trabuio was born in San Liberale di Marcon in 1945. The first thirty years of his life were marked by numerous negative events. His way of coping with adversity was to dedicate himself to painting, which would become his life's work. In 1981, he painted the church of San Liberale. In 1993, a poet from Volpago di Montello hosted him in a house in the woods, where he found a direct connection with nature that would lead him to develop Transvisism.
