Description of the work
Description of the work
Treccani enriches its series of works dedicated to religious history with the publication of the volume L'Italia ei Santi, the project of which was developed by Tommaso Caliò, Daniele Menozzi, and Antonio Menniti Ippolito. The aim is to continue and deepen the discussion "on our common cultural identity as Italian and European citizens," to better understand how the concept of sanctity has influenced the construction of the Italian identity.
The binding is in pit-tanned white cowhide, with gold embossing and embellishments on the front and spine. The work is housed in a matching leather slipcase.
The hot-gold engraving on the plate depicts Saint Francis and is inspired by a woodcut by Adolfo De Carolis (1925, Montefiore dell'Aso, Polo Museale di San Francesco, Museo Adolfo De Carolis). A series of portraits of saints was specially created by Mimmo Paladino; the 12 images are die-cut and glued by hand. Three medals, struck in hand-patinated and shaded 925/1000 silver, each 40 mm in diameter and weighing 35 g, depict images of Saint Catherine.
The work includes three medals, minted in 925/1000 silver.
