Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

The entire family of Locatelli painters has always stood out for its highly contemporary painting style, even within traditional genres such as landscape and portraiture. Here too, we can see how the interpretation of the view takes into account the most up-to-date influences of Post-Impressionism, almost reaching the point of creating an expressionist landscape. Indeed, the formal synthesis is so advanced that the abstract component prevails over the naturalistic, even though, ultimately, the work remains firmly anchored in phenomenal reality. The pictorial approach clearly seeks an emotional and spirituality linked to the observation of nature. The brushstrokes are applied in a diluted form, bringing the color to the highest levels of expressiveness.

The Locatelli family is a Bergamo-based family that, starting in the 19th century, has seen nine painters over three generations, from the founder, Giuseppe Locatelli, to the youngest, Orfeo. Among the various members, the most credited with the creation of this painting may be Raffaello Locatelli, born in 1915 and who died in 1984. He trained at the Accademia Carrara and won various awards, including the Premio Presidenza della Repubblica and the Premio Michetti in 1950. In 1956, together with other artists such as Trento Longaretti, Giuseppe Milesi, and Rinaldo Pigola, he founded the Gruppo Bergamo. He lived for a time in France, where he was influenced by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements.
