Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
Lorenzo Palazzi's pictorial style is closely connected to the artist's formative years, the Labronica School, which developed a highly refined style of landscape and genre painting based on the influences of Post-Impressionism and Post-Macchiaiolism. Indeed, the entire compositional structure of Palazzi's works is based on an extremely rapid, cursive brushstroke that sketches the subjects with a few rapid strokes. The sense of immediacy in the rendering is striking. Likewise, the importance of color is notable, with its denseness, and some brushstrokes filled with a light-giving white.
Lorenzo Palazzi was a painter from Livorno, born in 1921 and died in 1990. He trained under the guidance of his grandfather, Professor Anselmi, a restorer at the National Museums. His entire artistic career was marked by genre painting typical of Livorno, achieving considerable critical and public success. Palazzi participated in the first Quadriennale dell'Arte in Turin and subsequently in the 2000 International Art Fair in Bologna.
