Description of the work
Description of the work
One of the most important concepts in the history of artistic production has been that of "mimesis," or the human need to imitate and reproduce nature, that which surrounds us. Nature refers to everything that can be grasped through the five senses—in short, phenomenal reality. Figurative art trends can be considered those that, in the representation of the world, adhere most closely to this objective and sensorial dimension, leaving little room for abstraction and subjective interpretation.
For artist Lorenzo Quinn, sculptural creation is an essential and powerful means of objectively conveying universal concepts. For this reason, his language is fundamentally figurative, and within this vocabulary, hands constitute a recurring iconographic theme. For Lorenzo Quinn, hands are the tangible and plastic image of strength, and therefore of energies that are not only physical but also internal, which engage the experience of existence. For these reasons, to achieve objective clarity of his message, Quinn's representation must always be eloquent, resolved into compositions with a strong visual impact. This intent is supported by an extraordinary production technique that meticulously captures every detail of the representation.
Lorenzo Quinn was born in Rome in 1966, the son of actor Anthony Quinn, and has an established career as a sculptor. His primary influences are Michelangelo and Bernini. His works and installations are renowned worldwide and are held in private collections and museums. His most celebrated exhibitions have been in Doha (Qatar), the United Nations, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Singapore, India, Canada, and many European capitals. His installation "Support," created in Venice in 2017, is particularly well-known. He has collaborated with the Halcyon Gallery in London for over twenty years.
