Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a constant aspiration for painters. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The work is a prime example of Luca Alinari's artistic language, presenting the Florentine artist's highly personal and distinctive vision of the world. Alinari distorts perceptible reality in the name of a representation charged with hidden meanings and a composition that seeks to convey these meanings. Thus, space becomes distorted and swollen. Perspectives are no longer plausible, and every point of reference is lost. Color plays a fundamental role, and in Alinari's work, it always takes on a pop, almost kitsch, quality, displaying strong and aggressive hues.
Luca Alinari was born in Florence in 1943 and passed away in 2019. After attending the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy, he initially worked as a literary critic. His first exhibition was in 1969. In the 1970s, he entered the sphere of Pop Art and began to paint living spaces with irony. In 1972, he held another solo exhibition in Florence, at the Galleria Michauld, and from 1979 onwards, he held other exhibitions throughout Italy. In 2005, he participated in the Rome Quadriennale.
