Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the female figure is an expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the female figure has also been a protagonist within the new aesthetic concepts brought by the historical avant-garde, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
The painting is a typical example of Lucia Sarto's work, a large portion of which features refined female figures set in elegant scenes and refined symbolic compositions. This artist's true distinctiveness lies not so much in her depiction of truth (in fact, the figure appears idealized) but in the quality of her pictorial interpretation. Lucia Sarto's brushstrokes are powerfully effective, dense, and vaporous. She blurs the subjects' contours, rendering them evanescent, yet without altering the image's readability in the slightest. In short, the painter is capable of combining elevated pictorial effects with a delicate, respectful depiction of the subject.
Lucia Sarto was born in the province of Udine in 1950. Her artistic training took place between Venice and Turin. Her career took off in the Piedmontese capital, where she participated in important group exhibitions and was named Painter of the Year with a solo exhibition at the Palazzo della Regione. She has held over one hundred exhibitions, at least half of which are solo shows, both in Italy and abroad. Her painting style is described as "Romantic Realism."
