Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central figure in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
In this painting, painter Lucia Sarto displays all her technical prowess, achieving a completely naturalistic and technically perfect rendering. The model's anatomy is depicted in minute detail, but it is above all the details that determine the great truthfulness and naturalness of this body: the softness of the skin, which almost seems to suggest the tactile effect of the skin; the interaction of the hair with the surrounding space, which blends harmoniously with the atmosphere; the balance of light that illuminates the model's body from the left in a suggestive and dramatic manner. The space of the work and the still life are also meticulously crafted with a lively impressionistic painterly style.
Lucia Sarto was born in the province of Udine in 1950. In 1961, in Trieste, she won first prize in the Regional Painting Competition for Middle School Students. Her artistic training took place between Venice and Turin, where she participated in her first major group exhibitions with considerable success. It was in Turin, a renowned center of Italian culture and art, that she was named Painter of the Year in a solo exhibition at the Palazzo della Regione, showcasing the most significant works of her "Romantic Realism." She has held over one hundred exhibitions to her credit, including about fifty solo exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
