Lucio Oliveri - Affectionately

Lucio Oliveri's bronze sculpture, titled "Affettuosamente," focuses the emotion and tenderness of the bond between the two protagonists in their faces alone. The artist chose to sculpt only the faces, excluding the bodies, to focus on the purity of their emotional expression. The man's delicately sculpted face appears as if he's about to kiss the woman's head, while his own face expresses affection and tenderness. The woman, serene and welcoming, allows herself to be pampered by this intimate gesture. The man's hand, detached from her body, seems like a natural extension of his being, gently caressing the woman's face in an act of protection and love. The work conveys a sense of tenderness and gentleness.

The artist uses a bronze casting technique that dates back to ancient times but was later adapted for a more contemporary style. To create small-scale sculptures, Oliveri first creates a wax model of the figure he wishes to sculpt, which is then entirely encased in terracotta. During the firing process, the wax melts, leaving a negative of the sculpture within the terracotta block. The molten bronze is then poured into the void left by the wax, creating the final sculpture. Once the bronze has solidified, the terracotta is destroyed to reveal the finished work. This process, traditional in artistic casting, was adapted by Oliveri to allow for multiple sculptures from the same mold, maintaining the precision and emotion of the original model.

Lucio Oliveri, born in Milan in 1934, developed a passion for sculpture at a young age, when he created a portrait of his deceased father. In the 1970s, he trained at the Centro Artistico Culturale Milanese, acquiring a figurative language that he would develop into symbolic and elegant works. His art, focused on faces and expressions, expresses profound emotions through an innovative use of bronze casting techniques. Throughout his career, Oliveri has received numerous awards and exhibited in Italy and abroad.
