Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
This work highlights the post-Impressionist maturity of Luigi Bisotti, whose exploration focused on the theme of flowers to achieve remarkable expressive heights in this stylistic register. The composition is compressed entirely into the foreground, allowing no spatial depth. The painter's aim is not to capture the sensory aspect of the flowers, but to capture their very essence, their substance. To this end, the textured brushstrokes intervene, which, despite the essentiality of the representation, flesh out the objects, breaking them down into different planes, recording the vibrations of light and life within them. The sensory aspect, therefore, is completely transcended in a complex conception of pictorial practice in which the artist's gestures themselves play a fundamental role. Even from a purely aesthetic perspective, the composition resolves itself in a harmonious dialogue of chromatic zones.
Luigi Bisotti was born in Monticelli d'Ongina in 1916 and passed away in 2013. His pictorial production focused on in-depth research on the theme of flowers. His study of this subject led him to experiment with various stylistic registers, from the most realist to the post-impressionist and expressionist, always achieving remarkable results. His works are also distinguished by the purity and brilliance of their colors, always arranged in a balanced and harmonious relationship. He held several solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including the 1982 New York Expo. He was awarded the Premio Europa d'Oro in 1980.
