In this collection of works, we can appreciate a glimpse of Luigi Caputo's remarkable pictorial quality in his favorite subjects. First and foremost, landscape, a central theme in this painter's work, but also floral subjects, a widespread theme in academic painting in the first half of the 20th century.
From a stylistic perspective, Luigi Caputo's mastery of painting stands out, distinguishing himself for his language, fully in tune with the poetics of the early twentieth century, predominantly Impressionist and Post-Impressionist. The subjects are summarized quickly and immediately, giving the representation a distinct freshness. Caputo's pictorial approach models the elements of nature, with thick, dense brushstrokes or more calligraphic hatching, delineating them dynamically as if shaken by the elements or by their very existence.
Luigi Caputo was born in Foggia in 1904 and died in Sesto San Giovanni in 1969. He moved to Lombardy at an early age, participating in the 1938 Exhibition of the Society for Fine Arts and Permanent Exhibition in Milan. He spent long periods in Cunardo, in the Varese Prealps, studying with Enrico Felisari. He painted landscapes, snow-covered countryside, village views, and seascapes.
