Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
Luigi Pretin is an essentially figurative artist, yet he forces nature to enhance the expressionistic vigor of his works. Thus, the representation of the subject takes on a more essential and synthetic character. However, the image is extremely rich in luminous and existential vibrations, thanks to an image construction achieved through the structural use of color.
Luigi Pretin is a painter born in Chioggia in 1938. His works are held in public and private collections and have been published in various contemporary art catalogs and periodicals. He is president of "Eoykos," the Group of 6. He lives and works in the Ligurian hinterland, in the landscape that inspires his art.
