Description of the work
Description of the work
The manner in which the subject was depicted draws on hyperrealist currents. Hyperrealism aims for a completely objective representation of reality: the artist's desire is to reproduce what he sees before his eyes without any interpretation. In this sense, the hyperrealist aesthetic also constitutes a paradox, often consciously sought by artists. Indeed, thanks also to the use of very aggressive techniques, inspired by the world of advertising, and the use of bright color palettes, a rendering of the naturalistic element is achieved so pure as to appear illusory, deliberately fake.
Much of Luigi Rocca's painting fully adheres to a hyperrealist aesthetic. This can be identified, first and foremost, in the precision with which every detail is faithfully reproduced on the painted surface with a cold objectivity. Furthermore, the scene's composition is photographic, reflecting modern image reproduction techniques. Above all, the execution is based on a hyperrealistic language. There is no pictorialism, no atmospheric impressions to indicate the fusion between subject and space. The light is incident, generating reflections that the painter carefully captures on the bodywork. There is a thorough investigation of the quality of the materials and the effects of light on them.
Luigi Rocca was born in Porpetto in 1952. His career began with an exhibition at the Galleria Viotti in Turin in 1985, which established him as one of the leading exponents of Hyperrealism. In 1987, he began collaborating with the Galleria San Giorgio in Portofino. In 1998, he participated in the Art Expo in New York and other important exhibitions in the USA.
