Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

In this painting, Luigi Rosati chooses a more traditional landscape representational style, compared to some of his more expressionist works. We can therefore appreciate the artist's ability to achieve a perfect naturalistic rendering, even though his conception of landscape retains an essential lyrical feeling. What is particularly remarkable in this painting is the artist's skill in capturing the reflections of pale light on the water.

The artist Rosati has a rather eclectic spirit that leads him to alternate more traditional representations with others in which he experiments with an expressionist language.
