Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

The painting is a prime example of Luigi Spazzapan's aesthetic language. He sketches the shapes of objects with a rapid, darting black line. This, in addition to imposing a lively and fluid rhythm on the entire work, gives rise to an almost extreme abstraction of sensory data. The subjects are synthesized quickly and immediately, with a minimal yet vibrant interpretation in which the role of color is fundamental. Luigi Spazzapan's synthesis of reality has a lively naïve tone, aiming to seek the essence of the subject in a serene and idyllic atmosphere. This desire is also reflected in the artist's preferred palette, based on bright, luminous colors.
Luigi Spazzapan, born in Gradisca d'Isonzo in 1889 and died in Turin in 1958, was a Slovenian-speaking painter. His artistic training took place primarily within the Secessionist movement, with visits to Vienna and Munich. He later also became involved with the Expressionist and Futurist avant-gardes. From 1929 onwards, he became involved with the Turin Six.
