Description of the work
Description of the work
The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings. In Luigi Vidoni's urban scenes, the everyday aspect prevails, the frank and sincere realism of everyday life in a city setting. Human presence is ignored, and the artist lets the buildings and objects speak for themselves, protagonists of a dramatic narrative created through the artist's gestures.
The landscape artist Luigi Vidoni's work is essentially based on an expressionist approach to the synthesis and abstraction of his subjects, which best captures the existential significance of his urban and suburban scenes. Luigi Vidoni's expressionism is expressed through a synthesis of his subjects, achieved through bold, nervous lines and a rough stroke. We can see how the artist subjects reality to a powerful synthesis of sign and color. Luigi Vidoni's conception of space is also highly distinctive. His seemingly two-dimensional views, in fact, contain a complexity constructed through multiple viewpoints and directional lines, again identified by the painter's marks.
Luigi Vidoni (1915, Tolmezzo) lives and works in Cividale del Friuli.
Throughout his long and varied artistic career, Vidoni has developed and mastered the technique of watercolor, of which he has established himself as a master. The favored subjects of his now mature and well-articulated pictorial language are the landscapes of Cividale, flowers, still lifes, views of Grado, and seascapes.
