Description of the work
Description of the work
The vase of flowers depicted in the painting falls within the still life genre, a pictorial genre that depicts inanimate objects in pictorial terms. Still life, which has continued to be a significant genre in contemporary art, evolves and reinvents itself through new perspectives and artistic expressions, becoming a subject and a means of exploring concepts and symbols. The works can reveal themes such as beauty, vanity, or the fragility of life. The genre was revived during the 17th century, when the element of reality prevailed, but over the centuries, still life has also been reinterpreted according to the painter's mood.
The landscape artist Luigi Vidoni's work is essentially based on a synthesis between abstraction and expression, which allows him to capture the existential significance of his urban and suburban scenes. The painter's expressionism is expressed, stylistically, in a synthesis of the subject through bold lines, a nervous progression, and a rough stroke. We can see how the artist subjects reality to a meeting of sign and color. Luigi Vidoni's conception of space is also highly distinctive. His still lifes, seemingly two-dimensional, actually contain a complexity constructed from multiple viewpoints and directional lines, again identified by the painter's marks.
Born in Tolmezzo in 1915, Luigi Vidoni worked in Cividale del Friuli. After attending the Tolmezzo School of Art and subsequently spending two years at the Cignaroli Academy in Verona, he devoted himself to the study and research of various painting techniques, with a special interest in watercolor. He began his career at a very young age; in 1933, he won first prize for decoration at the Udine competition and successfully participated in the National Competition in Rome in 1934. In 1935, he won first prize for fresco painting in Udine. In 1936, he was invited to the Florence Ceramics Exhibition, where he exhibited several artistic ceramics. He continued his career by participating in solo and group exhibitions in various Italian and foreign cities. He received awards and recognition from renowned critics at various artistic events and competitions. His works are held in public and private collections in Italy and abroad: France, Germany, the United States, Venezuela, Argentina, Switzerland, Holland, Canada, the Philippines, New Zealand and Australia.
