The panel depicts the Madonna with her cherub. In the lower left corner of the canvas is the "Bible." In the center is a Goldfinch that almost blends in with the brownish/red hue of the child's hand. Just behind him is the bird's nest. The composition takes place before a colonnade hidden by two small curtains that cover the Madonna's hair and both columns in the scene. The Madonna holds the child in her hand. While he gazes out of the painting, she gazes back at him before giving him a charming smile.
