Description of the work
Description of the work
The work shows us a landscape; the title reveals where we are. The painting is called "The Turning Point - Road to Ardea," and in fact the painter draws inspiration from the landscapes of his region, Lazio. Ardea is a small town near the sea, halfway between Ostia and Anzio. We are facing a bend in the road that reveals the vegetation of a summer landscape, with freshly cut yellow wheat along the side of the road, and the sea visible in the distance.
We are faced with a figurative painting. In some ways, it can be considered a work that develops in essential terms, playing almost exclusively on the colors of yellow and green. The style is two-dimensional, and although the shadows of the trees are depicted, the chiaroscuro of the individual objects is only hinted at, making the whole two-dimensional and thus emphasizing the chromatic value.
Giancarlo Maffeis, known professionally as Ananda Magjanca, is a contemporary artist working in the Lazio region. He has been passionate about painting since childhood, but it's only been in recent years that he's had the opportunity to pursue his passion and explore his artistic talent. This is because, as a freelancer, he's been able to reduce his work commitments over time to make room for painting, which now takes up almost all of his free time.
The painter suggests he's a great admirer of Edward Hopper, David Hockney, and the French Impressionists. Beyond these painters, however, there also seems to be a reference to Bob Dylan's vast landscapes. He prefers the use of tempera which he applies on different types of supports.
