Description of the work
Description of the work
Edmondo Maneglia gazes at the central area of Borgo Po, a neighborhood that connects the city and the hills. The canvas's perspective places the church of the Great Mother of God in the foreground. The design was by the architect of the Savoy court, Ferdinando Bonsignore (1760–1843), who was clearly inspired by the proportions and forms of the Pantheon in Rome. The painter reproduces through his own pictorial vision a landscape of his city that was dear to him, expressing a pictorial vision close to expressionist elements, with a view that fully reflects the artistic and conceptual approach of contemporary painters, seeking to channel their inner emotions through painting.
Edmondo Maneglia's liquid painting undoes the shapes of objects, imbuing them with vibrations that are simultaneously atmospheric and existential. Thick and soft colors overlap to illuminate volumes and spaces. Thanks to his mastery of capturing different volumes, a vibration of light is expressed that fleshes out the view and gives balance to the composition, integrating an emotional perspective and dividing the canvas into multiple registers.
Edmondo Maneglia was a Turin-based painter born in Koziu, Turkey, in 1925 and died in 2003. His favorite subjects were urban views and scenes of city life, as well as still lifes. His style is based on a Post-Impressionist style influenced by Cezanne, although at times it reached heights of Expressionism.
