Description of the work
Description of the work
We're dealing with a still life. These subjects have existed since antiquity, but only in the Baroque era did they become subjects with their own raison d'être and become paintings in their own right. Often, the depiction of flowers, fruit, and inanimate objects is a pretext for the painter to demonstrate his ability to realistically depict various objects. In more recent times, however, this has gone even further, and from a pretext to demonstrate one's skills, it has become a testing ground for new pictorial explorations. This means that still lifes become an opportunity for the artist to express his own vision of reality through his own sensibility. Here we are faced with a still life in the most classic sense; since Caravaggio's Basket of Fruit, this subject has been revisited countless times, but always with different meanings. The overall effect is that of an autumnal composition, both due to the choice of background and the grapes and vine leaves.
We are faced with a figurative painting typical of twentieth-century art. It doesn't seek photographic realism, but at the same time, it strives not to distort the objects depicted. The artist's painting appears instinctive, successfully combining the softness of the line with the strength of color. His works convey a certain lyricism, thanks in part to the base layer he applies to the canvas. By applying this relief matrix, he manages to create a vibrant, swirling effect throughout. Furthermore, he creates a stark contrast between the monochrome, neutral background and the rich chromatic range used for the foreground composition.
Mara Barigelli is a painter with an academic background, having attended the Macerata Institute of Fine Arts. She has developed her own unique style, both in terms of application and color, which is particularly evident in her still lifes.
