Description of the work
Description of the work
Marco Ambrosini is an artist from Carrara, and his research is rooted in the region where he trained, in the marble that has shaped the history of Italian sculpture and architecture. He trained at the Nicoli studios from 1998 to 2004. He subsequently collaborated with several important artists such as Damien Hirst, Jan Fabre, Giuliano Vangi, Louise Bourgeoise, Antoine Poncet, and Jimenez Deredia. Through these experiences, Marco Ambrosini's research has shaped an informal poetics based on highly advanced sculptural technique. In Marco Ambrosini's hands, marble comes to life in spirals, volutes, sinuous movements, and elegant, dynamic lines. It is as if the stone becomes a malleable material endowed with biological properties, from which pulsating life can be drawn. It almost seems as if a dialectical relationship is established between the sculptor seeking life within the marble block and the work itself, which seems almost driven by its own spontaneous need to evolve into biomorphic structures. As in Michelangelo's "Prisoners," in that same Carrara marble, the material struggles to find its own form, which, however, in Marco Ambrosini's poetics, does not result in the imitation of nature. Ambrosini, in fact, aims for a concrete representation of energy and vitality, not only through the aforementioned dynamism of the compositions, but also through the astonishing softness and fluidity of the surfaces.
