Description of the work
Description of the work
Marco Nereo Rotelli's work draws on various typical instances of Art
Contemporary already developed between the 60s and the 70s which he reports in
rises with a new and fresh interpretation. In the aesthetics developed by
Marco Nereo Rotelli is the written word that takes center stage. The artist, like
in the precedents indicated by Emilio Isgrò or Alighiero Boetti, makes the signifiers
constituent elements of the work of art, but according to its own particular style which
It also includes the Informal and, above all, the union with poetry.
Even in this work we can see how in the works of Marco Nereo
Rotelli overlaps different aesthetic instances and visual languages.
The fundamental element, as usual, is the written word which in Rotelli
takes on more of a gestural than a symbolic value. The words reported by the artist
In fact, on the painting there are no defined characters or legible words. In the sentence
reported by Rotelli, one can feel more the strength of the pictorial gesture and a certain
hermeticism suggested precisely by the incommunicability of those words that arose from
such an intimate and personal act. The concept of Hermeticism, taken from a
specifically literary point of view, it shows us how close the bond is
between Rotelli's pictorial gesture and poetry. While, on the other hand, the theme
of incommunicability suggests to us how his work is linked
inextricably linked with an informal aesthetic.
Marco Nereo Rotelli was born in Venice in 1955 and graduated in Architecture
in 1982. His artistic research presupposes a dialogue between the different
disciplines of knowledge and saw the involvement of philosophers, musicians,
photographers, directors. But it is above all with the poetic word that Marco's art
Nereo Rotelli has established an unbreakable bond. Among his many works and
installations realized we remember: in 1996 the homage to the La Fenice theatre in
Venice just destroyed, presented at the Rome Quadrennial; in 2000
the illumination with verses taken from Baudelaire's L'horloge of the facade of the
Petit Palais in Paris; in 2001 the involvement of a thousand of the greatest poets
contemporaries for the installation Bunker Poetico, created at the Biennale
Venice; in 2002 the recovery, in Carrara, of a quarry abandoned for years and
transformed, on the occasion of the 11th Sculpture Biennial, into a large book of
marble; in 2002 the large environmental installation Poetry for Peace in
Seoul; in 2005 again at the Venice Biennale, the recovery of the island of San
Second.
