Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality, as it was for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi. This work is part of a series of four engravings created by Marco Zambrelli to celebrate the four seasons.
Marco Zambrelli's artistic output reveals a powerful personality with a clear and precise language. Indeed, we are in the presence of a painter who bases his entire aesthetic on harmony and balance, both formally and in terms of color. Zambrelli pursues reality and seeks to capture it in an eternal moment of perfection suspended in time. For this reason, his compositions are always calibrated and rationally structured. Space is often constructed with rigorous perspective. Within this spatial box, objects appear in their solid and compact volumes. To this end, a solid drawing structure is employed. On this stable framework, color intervenes, usually applied in a compact manner, precisely with the intent of capturing the subject in an eternal moment. A highly objectifying approach, therefore, that avoids excessive pictorialism and instead allows the colors to emerge clearly in their brilliant hues. The light can then spread clear and sharp, creating suggestive diagonal shadow cuts.
Marco Zambrelli was born in Busto Arsizio (VA) in 1947. After completing art school, he attended the Faculty of Architecture at the Milan Polytechnic and the Brera Academy under Gianfilippo Usellini, later completing his studies with Luciano Caramel and Alik Cavaliere. Zambrelli's ongoing exploration of color, applied to his engraving, completely absorbed him, and his obstinate, almost obsessive rigor, matched only by his passion for the poetry of nature, led him to "establish the categories of a new, unique technique." The artist is primarily a landscape painter, with an extraordinary ability to capture the atmosphere of the natural contexts he depicts. Art historian Paolo Bellini emphasized Zambrelli's pioneering technique in the catalogue featuring the painter, which featured him in several exhibitions in the 1990s: at the Torchio di Porta Romana in Milan, the Galleria Ghiggini in Varese, and in the Edizioni editions of the Galleria Spirale in Milan.
