Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Aldo Mari's entire landscape painting is based on achieving a perfect balance between pictorial vibrations of a post-Impressionist flavor and the exploration of sensory data through a geometric rationalization of forms. Thus, to a highly accentuated pictorial synthesis, capable of rendering objects with a few rapid brush strokes, Mari combines a highly developed sense of structure and form. Even in the most synthetic and minimal landscapes, we can sense this structural value in Aldo Mari's painting, in his layering of brushstrokes plane upon plane and in the constant search, within the composition, for a balance of volumes. From a chromatic perspective, too, a perfect balance is maintained, based on dominant hues.
The artist Aldo Mari was born in Gorla Minore in 1913 and passed away in Legnano in 1988. His paintings were distinguished by an original landscape style, where the synthesis of subjects coincides with a profound sense of form and structure. In Aldo Mari's landscapes, a concrete vision of reality combines with a profound descriptive lyricism.
