Description of the work
Description of the work
The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.
Marilù Eustachio's informality is not that of matter but of gesture. However, it is a gesture that can be considered light, like a calligraphic intervention, unlike the vigorous instinctiveness expressed by other artists. The gesture, in fact, manifests itself in veils of pale colors, which overlap on the painted surface. At the center, the gesture becomes even more subtle, an evanescent sign.
Marilù Eustachio is an artist originally from Merano, but lives and works in Rome. She has also worked as a teacher for a long time. Her works have been published by important magazines. In 1988, her book Dai Taccuini was published by Le Parole Gelate, Rome. In 1990, the book Un peso viola, featuring 35 of her drawings, was published by Eidos. In 1993, her book of photographs Et in Arcadia ego was published by Arunda, Bolzano. In 2001, the book L'oro del pennino was published by Eos, Rome. In 2002, the book Fiori notturni was published by Heart Press, Rome, featuring 11 color reproductions of her paintings and a text by her.
