Description of the work
Description of the work
The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.
The painter Marino Iotti's style is grounded in color, texture, and painterly gesture. These three elements combine on his canvases to create compositions in which form takes a backseat, giving way to an unleashing of creative energy. Although in these completely abstract compositions, Iotti seems to maintain a certain sense of geometry and compositional balance. He seeks to somehow channel his creative flow by arranging his material with a certain balance and overlapping layers.
Marino Iotti was born in Scandiano in 1954. He trained at the Piccola Accademia di Regina Pacis under Giulio Soriani. His first exhibition took place in 1978 in his hometown. His research focuses primarily on aniconic forms of representation, but he also exhibits numerous portraits with a strong psychological impact. In the last decade, he has collaborated with the Saletta Galaverni gallery, with which he held two solo exhibitions in 2004 and 2009, and with the Nickel Gallery in Seebruck, Germany, where he exhibited in 2002 and 2004.
