Description of the work
Description of the work
The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.
This view of Caorle shows us how Mario Broggi's pictorial language is typically based on a calm realism, yet can also touch on the heights of post-Impressionist inspiration. The composition is constructed through dense brushstrokes of color, with which the artist sketches out the figures with a few quick strokes, delineating their volumes in square, geometric shapes. The composition then resolves into a harmonious balance of rational lines and forms. Warm reds and browns predominate in the chromatic palette.
Mario Broggi was a painter born in Milan in 1890 and died in Somma Lombarda in 1952. He was above all a landscape painter characterized by an intimate and calm realist language, based on balanced and rational compositions.
