Description of the work
Description of the work
DESCRIPTION: EMBLEMATIC WORK FROM 1975 BY MASTER MARIO DI IORIO WITH AUTHENTICATION AND DEDICATION SIGNED BY THE ARTIST ON THE BACK. ACRYLIC ON CANVAS, IMPRESSIONIST GENRE, FRAMED WITH GLASS, IN PERFECT STATE OF PRESERVATION (DIMENSION WITH FRAME 139.6 X 99.6 CM.). A HISTORIC AND IMPORTANT WORK, REPRESENTATIVE OF THE BEGINNING OF THE ARTIST'S CAREER, EXHIBITED AT HIS FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION IN 1975 AT THE “IL TORCHIO” ART GALLERY IN GORIZIA. ON THE BACK THERE IS A PERSONALIZED DEDICATION FROM THE ARTIST, THE AUTHOR'S ADDRESS, PRICE DEFINED IN 1975 AND STAMP OF THE GORIZIA ART GALLERY “IL TORCHIO”. Mario Di Iorio was born in 1958 in Tarvisio (Udine) and immediately moved to Gorizia, where he attended first the Gorizia Art Institute and then the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. In his early years at the art school, his painting moved within the realm of abstract expressionism. In a second phase, the artist moved towards more rigorous pictorial schemes, the so-called "Geometries," and subsequently returned to a more immediate and instinctive style of painting. Mario Di Iorio's most evident qualities are revealed in his coherent imagery, sober composition, and controlled strokes and gestures. He served as an assistant in anatomy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and as a painting assistant at the Brera Academy in Milan. Mario Di Iorio's first solo exhibition was in 1975, when he was seventeen, at the "Il Torchio" art gallery in Gorizia. Since then, his solo exhibitions and participation in important national and international group shows have been numerous, in Italy and abroad, obtaining numerous prizes and awards. And the sign is certainly the cornerstone of his expressiveness, even if color intervenes – though not very often – to characterize his engaging pictorial creations in terms of greater visual "pleasure." In recent times, this aggressive and necessary sign has calmed down in networked structures, vibrant over white-gray, almost monochrome fields, laid out with refined spatial knowledge. These are paintings that burn with a cold heat, as if the strong emotion that sustains them, tired of giving way to vortex and tumult, has found a calmer, more self-transparent path to transmit itself to the viewer. But it doesn't take long to realize that, beyond this iconic lucidity, Di Iorio's work has actually become further dramatized, more radical in its questioning of existence. The author committed suicide in Gorizia on July 9, 1999. The Brera Academy of Fine Arts pays tribute to its teacher by organizing an exhibition of drawings in the prestigious institution's library. In 2004, Emanuela Galli graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts with a thesis entitled "Mario Di Iorio, the Form of Feeling," which is available at the Isontina State Library in Gorizia. In 2009, the book "Mario Di Iorio - Fragments of an Autobiography" was published by Campanotto Editore, edited by Francesca Agostinelli, in the "Le Carte Nascoste" series. At the suggestion of Director Dr. Marco Menato, the exhibition hall of the Isontina State Library in Gorizia is named in memory of the artist.
