Mario Donizetti - The Face of the Pope

Born in Bergamo, Mario Donizetti is considered one of the greatest exponents of realist figurative painting. The scientific rigor of his research allowed him to revive varnished and glazed egg yolk tempera, to invent a method for encaustic painting on an easel, and to use encaustic pastel. In 1983, he was honored with a retrospective exhibition in the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan. More than any other contemporary artist, he understood that to create something new, we must seek the foundations of those who came before us...and by affirming that the destruction of the past brings only silence, he teaches us that what comes after must always be reverent toward what remains of what has been.
