Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

This work is extremely interesting, as it shows a more experimental side of the painter Mario Galanti, who in most of his work is distinguished by a remarkable formal purity. In this case, however, his favorite theme, the seascape, is rendered with a practically expressionist language. The landscape is subjected to a marked formal synthesis. Everything is played out in a two-dimensional space, with thick, dense brushstrokes of color.

Painter Mario Galanti was born in Naples in 1923. His style is based on a reinterpretation of the classic 19th-century Neapolitan landscape, filtered through a more dreamlike and dreamy vision. He is famous for his marine nocturnes and scenes of return from fishing.
