Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and pure colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.
Mario Radice's abstract art is always expressed through recurring and distinctive features, characteristic of his artistic style. Following in the tradition of pioneers Kandinsky and Mondrian, he too displays a distinct rationalist spirit, for which pure forms and pure colors are his starting point. From this, Radice develops his compositions, which he tends to complicate through superimpositions, interlocking elements, multiple perspectives, and overlapping planes. In this approach, the Como-born artist displays a certain affinity with Russian Constructivism.
Mario Radice was born in Como in 1898 and died in Milan in 1987. Along with Manlio Rho, Aldo Galli, Carla Badiali, and Carla Prina, he was part of the Como abstraction group, of which he was undoubtedly the most prominent figure. As can be seen from his work, his language had a marked rationalist spirit, born in part from his passion for architecture. He also frequently met leading figures in rationalist architecture such as Terragni, Lingeri, Sartoris, and Cattaneo.
