Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the representation of an aspect of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.
In this painting, Mario Rosario Allegretti demonstrates the full quality of his painting. The artist possesses a high-level technique that allows him to achieve a perfect naturalistic rendering, especially in his depictions of genre scenes, landscapes, and animal portraits. Everything is depicted with meticulous attention to detail. His painting is highly objective, eschewing any form of pictorialism and offering a clear plasticity reinforced by a solid drawing structure. Over all this, the light spreads in warm shimmers across the water's surface.
Mario Rosario Allegretti was born in 1945 but emigrated with his family to Venezuela at the age of nine. There, he developed his passion for art. He returned to Italy in 1960 and immersed himself completely in the Neapolitan tradition. He is considered one of the heirs of the Posillipo School. He passed away in Naples in 2008.
