Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

In this landscape, too, Mario Soave places more importance on his poetics of color than on naturalistic rendering. We are faced with a static landscape, almost metaphysical in its absence of movement. But all the vibrations are conveyed by the joyful pictorial style, made of fine hatching that seeks out every smallest detail in the grass, the bushes, and the blanket of snow. Throughout, the color palette is deliberately anti-naturalistic, better suited to expressing spiritual values, almost expressionistic in their intensity.

Mario Soave was born in Forte dei Marmi in 1955, where he currently resides. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards and recognitions, and has always enjoyed great critical and public acclaim. His works appear in numerous collections, both Italian and international. After an initial period of experimentation, Mario Soave devoted himself primarily to landscape painting.
