Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Mariolino da Caravaggio's eclectic personality led this painter, known primarily for his masterly copies and hyperrealist pastiches, to also create refined landscape paintings, in which he sought distinctive views, imbued with a unique lyricism. Hence his penchant for picturesque foreshortenings and evocative framing. Formally, this translates into a highly animated and dynamic style that ensures freshness and immediacy of execution. His brushstrokes are therefore characterized by a remarkably cursive touch, made up of sudden flickers that effectively capture the vibrations of light on objects. This is particularly evident in the rendering of foliage and the reflections in the water. The entire composition is imbued with a calm realism and a freshness deriving from the artist's technical prowess.
Mariolino Feraboli was an artist originally from Caravaggio in the province of Bergamo, born in 1923 and died in 1992. Better known as Mariolino da Caravaggio or the Forger, he was a painter specialized in the reproduction of author copies and still lifes; his works appear in numerous private collections.
