Description of the work
Description of the work
Late Carolingian script from the 11th century, tempera, sepia ink, gold leaf on medieval aiso Initial Anglo-Saxon capital of the 10th century. The only original text is kept at the Valencienne Civic Library. Milanese artist Marzio Foresti's pursuit of reconstructing the ancient world encompasses every aspect of his work. It begins with the aesthetic, which involves the invaluable restoration of medieval calligraphy, miniature painting, and the heraldry of coats of arms and ancestral lineages. But his passion for medieval manuscripts and his advanced training have led Marzio Foresti to a comprehensive philological exploration, encompassing techniques and materials as well. The supports are pure cotton paper, goatskin, or sheepskin, on which he draws with bamboo pens and quills. The inks are made with natural pigments, gum arabic, and egg white, using medieval techniques.
