Portraiture is one of the most widespread artistic expressions, especially in painting, but also in sculpture, throughout the ages. Portraiture is, first and foremost, a description of the subject depicted, an attempt to convey their physiognomy and individual characteristics truthfully and naturally. With the progressive evolution of artistic research, the physiognomic description of the subject has also been accompanied by a psychological one. Therefore, over the centuries, portraiture has also become a means of introspective investigation of the subject, their character, and their state of mind. The processes of abstraction brought about by contemporary art have contributed to this type of investigation. The original of this painting was created by Frans Pourbus the Younger (a Flemish painter who lived between 1569 and 1622) around 1603 and is preserved in the Galleria Palatina in Florence.

The copy made by the master copyists fully respects the original by Frans Pourbus the Younger. This is no easy task, as it is a Flemish work of art and requires the use of an extraordinary painting technique. Flemish painting is indeed distinguished by its ability to reproduce subjects with a great sense of realism and attention to every minute detail. Thus, in this copy, we can also see how the sensitive details are depicted with incredible fidelity in the reproduction of the physiognomy, the details of the clothing, the fabrics, and especially the effects of light on them. Achieving this result requires great skill in applying the oil paint, which the authors of the copy demonstrate. Another element worth noting is the care taken to give the panel an antique patina, creating a reproduction that is as true to life as the original.
