Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.
This work truly exemplifies the extraordinary pictorial quality of artist Maurizio Delvecchio. Indeed, this still life represents an excellent example of realism, primarily because of the almost photographic manner in which the artist reproduces the subject's sensory details. But Maurizio Delvecchio has the ability to transcend mere reproduction, demonstrating the contribution an artist can make to the interpretation of reality. Indeed, his brushstrokes are extremely light, rendering everything diaphanous and almost elusive, both the object and the space in which it is contained. In short, the artist manages to transfer the same elusiveness of the perception of things to canvas, producing an image that is blurry yet vibrant with existence. All of this, paradoxically, is the fruit of a long and thoughtful study of how we understand reality and how to represent it in a living, non-illusory manner.
Maurizio Delvecchio was born in Basel, Switzerland, in 1962 to an Italian family. From a young age, he was drawn to drawing and art. After returning to Italy with his parents, he graduated from the Liceo Artistico in Ravenna. During this period, he began painting and had his first exhibitions. In 1985, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna. He won first prize in the Giorgio Mondadori monthly magazine "Arte" in 1998. In 2011, he participated in the 54th Venice Biennale, Italian Pavilion. He lives and works in Cesenatico.
